The Coast Guard and other vessels in the area responded, and as of midday all aboard the Spirit of '98 were rescued and safely on their way to Juneau aboard other ships. Company officials said there were 93 passengers and 27 crew aboard when the ship hit the rock.

Crew from both the ferry Le Conte and the cruise vessel Spirit of Endeavour are saying it was the other ship's fault, said U.S. Coast Guard Lt. j.g. Eric Bauer. Investigators are still interviewing crew members and haven't determined exactly what happened yet.
