There will be two new champions crowned in the Class 2A state basketball tournaments this weekend, and the Yakutat girls and Angoon boys are hoping they will be state champions when the tournaments end Saturday at Anchorage's Service High School.

Pitka, a 5-foot-8 shooting guard, averaged 17 points a game in the Class 2A state basketball tournament as he led the Eagles to their first state title.

Dustin Bowen hit a jumper with eight seconds left to lift the Hoonah boys to a 76-74 win over Bristol Bay on Thursday in the opening round of the Class 2A state basketball tournament at Service High School in Anchorage.

``We couldn't have scripted it better,'' Hoonah coach Arne Erickson said. ``We had the ball back and we got some good looks at the basket, but we couldn't knock them down.''

Point Hope held off Kake 54-47 in the opening round of the Alaska School Activities Association Class 2A State Girls Basketball Tournament on Tuesday at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage.
