ANCHORAGE - The Alaska Railroad Corp. is replacing the bolted rail that it has previously used with continuously welded rail on the corridor between Anchorage and Wasilla. "This is big stuff," Terry Hinman, manager of welded rail for the railroad, told the Alaska Journal of Commerce. "It is a huge step forward for this railroad."
Whistle stop railroad service is now up and running in Chugach National Forest, part of a multi-million dollar effort to make Alaska's great outdoors more accessible to everyone.
Last fall General Communications Inc., an Anchorage long-distance and telecommunications company, purchased the Alaskan Cable Network that served Juneau. At the same time it bought two other Alaskan cable companies.
