Two "Percent for Art" projects announced

The Alaska State Council on the Arts, on behalf of the University of Alaska Anchorage, has announced application requests for exterior and interior public artwork to be commissioned for two different public buildings: the new Alaska Airlines Center, a multi-purpose sports arena, and the new Engineering and Industry Building. Poetry out loud

Maeva Ordaz from West Anchorage High School in Anchorage was named the winner of the Poetry Out Loud state finals on Tuesday night in Juneau, after reciting three poems over the course of three rounds in the competition of 10 students from around the state. First runner up was Juneau's own Rafael Sales, of Thunder Mountain High School. John Sarmiento, from Homer High School in Homer, was the third competitor to make it to the third round of recitation.
