O n the heels of the most successful festival in years, musicians with the Sitka Summer Music Festival head to Juneau for a cruise concert Saturday. Heather MacLean, director of the Sitka festival, said attendance was excellent this year. "We've sold out every single concert," MacLean said. "It's amazing."

Whether his Moscow Chamber Orchestra is playing in Czechoslovakia or Carnegie Hall or even the Juneau-Douglas High School auditorium, music director and conductor Constantine Orbelian has one wish. "As a performer, one has only one thing on his mind, to make an impression on one's audience and to make an emotional experience out of listening to music," said Orbelian, now in his 14th year in the orchestra, in an e-mail from Prague. "I am that way myself. I want to leave a concert hall with a lasting emotional musical impression."

Juneau Empire Online Entertainment: Sitka fest musicians perform 6/26/97

The Sitka Summer Music Festival is in its 26th Season. The non-profit group presents three concerts each year outside of Sitka, two in Achorage and one in Juneau. Concerts are also presented in small Southeast communities each summer. This year festival artists performed in Pelican and Gustavus.
