FAIRBANKS - The University of Alaska Board of Regents has submitted its annual budget request, asking for a $13.6 million increase in general state appropriations and $42.4 million more for capital projects. The $13.6 million represents a decrease from last year's $16.9 million requested increase and the previous year's $18.2 million requested increase.
FAIRBANKS - Tuition at the University of Alaska would increase by up to $38 a credit hour under a proposal from university administrators. The plan, to be introduced to the university Board of Regents at its meeting this week, proposes increasing undergraduate and graduate tuition 10 percent during the 2003-2004 school year and another 10 percent the following year.
University of Alaska administrators want the Legislature to appropriate $141 million for construction and upgrades at campuses next year but the Board of Regents is counseling a more moderate request.
