The Kensington Mine produced 23,162 ounces of gold during its second quarter of 2013, according to Coeur Mining's most recent report. Production at Kensington Mine was down 8 percent from the first quarter.
The City and Borough of Juneau's Docks and Harbors department has renewed Coeur Alaska's permit to use a city launch ramp through the winter.
Coeur Alaska CEO Chairman, President and CEO Dennis Wheeler presented a check for $20,000 to University of Alaska Southeast Provost Rick Caulfield and Development Director Lynne Johnson at a luncheon at the Alaska Miner's Association Conference on March 16. The donation will help sustain up to $2,000 in scholarships annually to UAS Environmental Science and Marine Biology students.
After reading the Empire's article on Aug. 21, "SEACC Urges Cooperation on Mine," I thought we should remind readers that just because the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council continues to say, "Coeur Alaska lacks lawful means of handling the tailings" doesn't make it true.
I'm proposing that Gov. Sarah Palin appoint Coeur Alaska to take over the former Fish and Game Habitat Division (now run by the Department of Natural Resources).
